Nadat Michael Myers als 10-jarig kind een gruwelijke slachtpartij aanrichtte, werd hij opgenomen in een psychiatrische inrichting. Nu, 17 jaar later, komt hij per ongeluk vrij en keert onmiddellijk terug naar zijn woonplaats Haddonfield, op zoek naar zijn jongere zus. Een ieder die zijn pad kruist, is in levensgevaar.
