Funny People gaat over komediant George Simmons. Hij is succesvol, vrouwen houden van hem en mannen willen zoals hem zijn. Keerzijde is het feit dat Simmons zelf een ingenomen, arrogante zak is die om niemand iets geeft. Hier lijkt verandering in te komen als hij erachter komt dat hij niet meer zolang te leven heeft.
