Als tijdens een operatie onder leiding van chirurg Ken Garrett de patiënt, een kind, komt te overlijden, kan hij dit niet verwerken. Hij besluit een tijdje te stoppen met werken terwijl zijn vrouw Beth, een advocate, voor de nodige inkomsten blijft zorgen. Beth wordt in dienst genomen door een verpleegster van het ziekenhuis waar ook Ken werkte. De verpleegster wordt beschuldigd van fouten tijdens een operatie.
