Een gevangene (Thornton) komt vrij na 19 jaar nadat hij een straf uitzat wegens de dood van een tiener tijdens een roofoverval. Gedurende zijn straftijd had hij een foto van de tiener aan de muur en staarde er voortdurend naar. Nu hij eenmaal vrij is probeert hij een soort persoonlijke verlossing te vinden met de hulp van een priester en twee vrouwen.
