De mensen leven in een ondergrondse wereld waar tunnels alle kanten op gaan. Hoewel ze in het donker leven, in kleine ruimtes wonen en speciale beschermende kleding moeten dragen, leven ze toch een rustig en aantrekkelijk leven. Patema, een prinses in haar dorp, houdt er van om op onderzoek te gaan in de tunnels. Haar favoriete plek is de "gevarenzone" waar ze niet mag komen. Haar nieuwsgierigheid kan niet voorkomen dat ze toch naar de gevaarlijke plek blijft gaan. Op één van haar tochten ontdekt ze een verborgen geheim.
