De vissers klagen dat hun netten worden verwoest door zeeleeuwen en een moeder zeeleeuw sterft in één van de netten. Haar baby wordt meegenomen door de havenmeester wiens dochter vriendschap sluit met de zeeleeuw die ze Andre noemt en kunstjes leert.
