Een miljonair wordt dood in bed aangetroffen. Hij blijkt aan een hartaanval gestorven te zijn. Wanneer er cocaïne wordt aangetroffen in zijn lichaam, en de nalatenschap aan zijn vriendin Rebecca Carlson (Madonna) acht miljoen dollar blijkt te zijn, wordt ze gearresteerd op verdenking van moord. Het wapen: haar lichaam. De advocaat Frank Dulaney (Willem Dafoe) verdedigt haar en al snel ontstaat er een heftige, seksuele relatie tussen de twee.
