Gouverneur Earl Long van Louisiana wordt verliefd op een jonge stripper, genaamd Blaze Starr. Wanneer Earl en Blaze bij elkaar gaan wonen, gebruiken Earl's tegenstanders dit om zijn politieke programma aan te vallen. Het is aan Earl om ervoor te zorgen dat hij Blaze en de staat in handen houdt.
