Wanneer de 13-jarige surfkampioen Johnny Kapahaala van Hawaï naar Vermont verhuist, is hij ervan overtuigd dat de fun in zijn leven voorgoed voorbij is. Hij ziet er tegenop om zijn vrienden en zijn geliefde grootvader achter te laten. In zijn nieuwe buurt voelt hij zich een buitenstaander, tot hij een nieuwe sportieve uitdaging ontdekt: het snowboarden. Toch zijn de problemen nog niet helemaal van de baan want Johnny bevindt zich plots tussen twee rivaliserende bendes. Kan hij de vete voor eens en voor altijd bekoelen?
