Jason Prayer woont in een typisch klein Amerikaans stadje in Nebraska. Zo'n stadje waar je pas iets bent als je een lokale football-ster bent. Dat is Jason niet, hij werkt bij een tankstation en bij het lokale filmtheater dat gerund wordt door de dementerende Gus. De psychische situatie rond Gus brengt Jason langzamerhand in de problemen en tevens krijgt hij te maken met de idiote, arrogante football-ster Tad. Gelukkig is er ook nog wat ontspanning via de mooie, mysterieuze Frances en een nieuweling in de stad, de liefhebber van klassieke films Robbie.
Nee, helaas is The Good Life nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
