Hans en Grietje, achtergelaten door hun ouders in het bos, komen vast te zitten in het koekhuisje van de heks Griselda die hen wil vetmesten om als ingrediënt te dienen van een reusachtige kruidkoek. De gelijknamige opera en het sprookje van de gebroeders Grimm waren het uitgangspunt voor deze poppenfilm.
