Catherine (Kidman) en Matt Parker proberen zich aan te passen aan hun nieuwe leven in het afgelegen Australische woestijnstadje Nathgari. Ze zijn een leuk gezin maar wel erg op zichzelf gesteld. Op de vooravond van een gigantische zandstorm verdwijnen hun twee kinderen, Lily en Tom, in de woestijn. Wanneer het stadje omhuld wordt door rood zand en duisternis helpt de lokale bevolking mee om de kinderen te zoeken. De leiding van de zoektocht is in handen van de lokale politieagent David Rae (Hugo Weaving). Het wordt al snel duidelijk dat er iets verschrikkelijks met de kinderen is gebeurd.
Nee, helaas is Strangerland nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
