12e eeuw. De Gobi-woestijn is geen veilige plek voor reizigers omdat plunderingen en verkrachtingen van alledag zijn. Mongolenkoning Temujin ziet op een dag een Tartaarse vrouw en wil haar als zijn vrouw. Hij lokt hiermee een oorlog uit met de Tartaren, maar hij gaat de confrontatie niet uit de weg en wordt één van de grootste veroveraars.
