Carlos Ramirez is een jonge tekenaar, die graag de Latijnse wijk (Washington Heights) waarin hij woont wil verlaten om het te gaan maken als striptekenaar in New York. Maar wanneer zijn vader, die eigenaar is van een winkel in 'the Heights', wordt neergeschoten tijdens een poging tot inbraak is Carlos genoodzaakt om zijn droom uit te stellen en de winkel van zijn vader over te nemen. In die periode komt hij er achter dat, als hij het wil maken als striptekenaar, hij zich moet mengen in de samenleving waar hij vandaan komt en die ervaringen moet gebruiken in zijn toekomstige werk als striptekenaar.
Nee, helaas is Washington Heights nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
