James Lake is een ontsnapte gevangene, die was veroordeeld voor een moord, die hij niet heeft begaan. Leslie Whitlock biedt James geld aan om zijn vrouw Ellen te vermoorden. James ziet daar van af om zich met zijn oude vlam en nachtclubzangeres Lily te herenigen. Lily blijkt echter inmiddels getrouwd te zijn met zijn eigen broer. James gaat daarom maar terug naar Leslies vrouw Ellen. Samen ontsnappen zij aan Leslie en proberen zij de moordenaar te vinden, waarvoor James jaren onterecht gezeten heeft.
