Oude huizen in Zagreb worden gesloopt om nieuwe, grotere blokken te bouwen. Een leraar die in een van deze huizen woont, laat een vreemdeling zijn huis met hem delen. De vreemdeling heeft een fascinatie voor statistiek en beweert dat hij misdaden kan voorspellen op basis van statistische analyses. Wanneer een voorspelde moord niet heeft plaatsgevonden, is de vreemdeling onvermurwbaar dat de hele stad zal lijden, tenzij er een evenwicht wordt bereikt - en hij vertrekt.
