Op een dag ontdekt de zeer correcte docent Jack Lambert (Aykroyd) dat hij naast een Duitse nazi-commendant (Max Müller) woont. Hij besluit de wereld te beschermen voor deze man en dus vermoordt hij hem. Dat doet hij zo goed, dat niemand weet dat hij het heeft gedaan - totdat hij trouwt met zijn dochter Inga Müller (Tomlin) en achter de waarheid komt...
