De op historische feiten gebaseerde film belicht het leven van O-ei, de dochter van de beroemde kunstenaar Hokusai. Zij hielp hem haar hele leven bij zijn werk, waarbij onderbelicht bleef dat ze zelf ook soms schilderwerk voor haar rekening nam. Haar koppigheid en levenslust was even groot als die van haar berucht dwarse vader.
Nee, helaas is 百日紅 〜Miss HOKUSAI〜 nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
