Jarod is een 'pretender': een genie wiens buitengewone intelligentie hem toelaat eender welk beroep in een sneltempo te leren. Hij wendt deze gave aan om mensen in nood te helpen, maar hij wordt op de hielen gezeten door agenten van de geheime overheidsorganisatie The Centre. Die ontvoerden Jarod begin jaren zestig en gebruikten hem als proefkonijn voor tal van psychologische experimenten. Enkele jaren geleden wist Jarod te ontsnappen, maar sindsdien kent hij geen seconde rust meer.
Nee, helaas is The Pretender 2001 nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
