Jory (Vittorio Gassman) is een ontsnapte gevangene opgejaagd in de zompige moerassen van Louisiana door sheriff Tunner (Barry Sullivan). Sheriff Tunner wil Jory op het rechte pad helpen, maar hij moet dan ook met de valse vriendin van Jory afrekenen.
