De film vertelt twee verhalen. Het eerste gaat over een vrouwelijke arts in een ziekenhuis op het Thaise platteland tijdens de tweede helft van de twintigste eeuw. In het tweede verhaal staat een mannelijke arts centraal. Hij werkt in een medisch centrum in het hedendaagse Bangkok. De dialogen in beide verhalen komen globaal overeen, maar de uitkomsten verschillen.
