Adrienne heeft alles om gelukkig te zijn: een man en een dochter die veel van haar houden en een boeiende job in de New Yorkse kunstwereld. Haar echtgenoot Jack is conservator van de afdeling antiquiteiten in een groot museum. Haar geluk stort echter in elkaar als een collega van Jack wordt vermoord, een kostbare ketting gestolen wordt, en Jack kort daarna sterft in een ongeval. Maar dat is nog maar het begin.
