Ava Maclaine is een bekende zangeres die van haar brave imago af wil en een pikante videoclip opneemt. Hoewel de clip een overweldigend succes kent, is haar vriendje Curtis niet akkoord met de nieuwe Ava. Het komt tot een kletterende ruzie, en Ava besluit zich een tijdje af te zonderen in Maine om in alle rust nieuwe liedjes te schrijven. Onderweg maakt ze bij een tankstation kennis met de charmante pompbediende Xavier.
