Na zes jaar van brute moorden vreest de politie van West Yorkshire dat ze The Ripper al hebben geïnterviewd en hem weer op de wereld hebben toegelaten om zijn schrikbewind over de burgers van Yorkshire voort te zetten. Peter Hunter, assistent-hoofdcommissaris van de politie van Manchester, wordt ingeschakeld om toezicht te houden op het Ripper-onderzoek van de politie van West Yorkshire en om te zien wat ze hadden kunnen missen.
