De jaren 50. Het verhaal volgt de onconventionele liefde tussen Marla Mabrey, een jonge toegewijde actrice en Frank Forbes, haar eveneens conservatieve chauffeur. Beide zijn in dienst van visionair Howard Hughes, die verwikkelingen tussen werknemers ten strengste verbiedt.
