In deze korte komedie worstelt Luis Vaz de Camoes, de grootste Portugese dichter uit de renaissance, op creatief gebied met zijn hedonistische en drugsverslaafde levensstijl. De film volgt de dichter en zijn geliefde Dinamene terwijl hij zijn meesterwerk schrijft, het epische gedicht Os Lusiadas. Hij reist van de kakofonie van de Indic jungles, omringd door allegorische olifanten en rijmende makaken, naar de grens van Hemel en Hel, waar hij geconfronteerd wordt met zijn fantasie: roem en onsterfelijkheid.
