Uit financiële overwegingen besluit een echtpaar uit de lagere middenklasse om zich aan het experiment te wagen. Eens gekrompen kunnen ze met hun spaargeld een luxueus leven leiden in een verkleinde mensenwereld, waar ze minder land en voedsel verspillen en minder afval produceren.
