Plot

In New York City wordt de slimme maar naïeve New Englander Anne Welles secretaresse bij een theatraal advocatenkantoor, waar ze verliefd wordt op advocaat Lyon Burke. Anne raakt bevriend met de opkomende zangeres Neely O'Hara, wiens dynamische talent de ouder wordende ster Helen Lawson en de mooie maar talentloze actrice Jennifer North in gevaar brengt.
