Laurel Hester werkt als rechercheur in New Jersey. Ze is nooit open geweest over haar seksuele voorkeur totdat ze verliefd wordt op Stacie Andree, een jongere, openlijk lesbische automonteur. Wanneer Laurel te horen krijgt dat ze terminaal ziek is, vraagt ze de wetgevers van New Jersey haar politiepensioen aan Stacie te geven in geval ze overlijdt.
