Haruo droomt ervan de beste goochelaar ooit te worden, maar tot nu toe lukt het hem nog niet om boven de grauwe middelmaat uit te stijgen. Hij heeft zijn ouders al vroeg verloren. Door een mirakel gaat hij veertig jaar terug in de tijd naar Asakusa, Tokio, ontmoet daar zijn ouders en leert daar het geheim achter zijn geboorte kennen.
