Na een familiedrama begint Emma Drakeford aan een videodocumentaire over haar leven voor een schoolproject. Haar leven komt echter op zijn kop te staan wanneer een angstaanjagend virus in haar kleine stadje uitbreekt en haar vrienden en buren veranderen in wrede monsters. Emma en haar familie worden in quarantaine geplaatst en denken dat ze uit de gevarenzone zijn. Maar wanneer de ziekte hun huis binnendringt, worden ze geconfronteerd met een onmogelijke beslissing.
