De film speelt zich af na Shohoku's oefenwedstrijd tegen Ryonan en concentreert zich op een oefenwedstrijd tegen Takezono High. Voor de wedstrijd komt Sakuragi Yoko Shimura tegen, het meisje dat hem afwijst in de allereerste scène van de serie, en Oda, de basketbalspeler waarvoor ze hem heeft afgewezen.
