Sissy Hankshaw is geboren met uitzonderlijk grote duimen. Ze besluit van haar handicap gebruik te maken en wordt beroepslifter. Zonder vaste verblijfplaats reist ze dwars door Amerika. In New York woont één van haar vrienden, The Countess. Hij is de eigenaar van de beauty farm en ranch 'De Rubber Rose' in Oregon. Wanneer hij Sissy daar voor een fotosessie naar toestuurt leert zij haar grote liefde Bonanza Jellybean kennen. De ontmoeting brengt een grote verandering in Sissy's leven teweeg.
