Rick Martin ontdekt dat hij een gave bezit voor muziek en valt helemaal voor de trompet. De legendarische Art Hazzard helpt hem met het bespelen van de trompet. Hij wordt uiteindelijk een ster trompetspeler, maar weigert om mee te spelen met de saaie deuntjes van het orkest.
