Kansas, 1875. John Henry Clayton keert terug naar zijn geboorteplaats in de hoop de band met zijn vader dominee Clayton, waarmee hij een verstoorde relatie heeft, te herstellen. Maar een lokale bende blijkt de stad te terroriseren. John Henry is de enige die deze bende zou kunnen stoppen, maar hij heeft zowel zijn pistool als zijn reputatie van een onverschrokken revolverheld achter zich gelaten.
