Majoor Wright (Telly Savalas) krijgt de haast onmogelijke taak om een geheime fabriek waar een dodelijk zenuwgas wordt gefabriceerd te vernietigen. Hij leidt 12 reeds veroordeelde gevangenen op waarmee hij de riskante taak op zich neemt om diep in het bezette Frankrijk door te dringen. Daar moeten ze een op handen zijnde aanval met het dodelijke gas op Washington stoppen voor het te laat is.
