Plot

Documentaire over singer/songwriter Townes van Zandt die als idool geldt van menig beroemd muzikant, terwijl hij zelf elk commercieel succes vermeed. De film verhaalt over zijn jeugd waarin de introverte Van Zandt altijd met zijn vader, een oliemagnaat, mee moest reizen en de afschuwelijke periode toen hij shocktherapie moest ondergaan omdat hij uit een hoog gebouw was gesprongen. Verscheidene artiesten en kenners van zijn werk bespreken deze en meer hoogte en -dieptepunten uit zijn leven, in relatie tot zijn alom bejubelde songs.
