De hotelmagnaat Ted Wheetly is hard tegenover zijn arrogante feestende zoon Carson die erin gelooft dat zijn rijke, rokkenjagende vader zijn moeder de dood in heeft gereden. Wanneer Ted omkomt tijdens een speedboot ongeluk wordt rechercheur Frank Walker op de zaak gezet om de zaak te onderzoeken. Hoe meer hij zich in de zaak verdiept, hoe wantrouwiger hij wordt van de intriges, verleiding, hebzucht, bedrieging en mogelijk zelfs een koelbloedige moord.
