Herfst, 2003. Na een pijnlijke relatie beëindiging met zijn vriendin Erica, besluit Harvard student Mark Zuckerburg zijn frustraties te uitten door erover te bloggen op zijn computer. Na een aantal drankjes krijgt hij samen met zijn kamergenoot Eduardo Saverin het geweldige idee om foto’s op internet te zetten van de vrouwelijke medestudenten en ze door te sturen naar andere colleges om ze vervolgens te laten beoordelen op uiterlijk.
