Mike Lowrey en Marcus Burnett zijn nog steeds werkzaam bij de politie van Miami. Terwijl Marcus al denkt aan pensioen, om eindelijk van zijn gezin en nieuwe kleinkind te genieten, is zijn partner Mike van plan tot zijn honderdste achter de boeven aan te zitten. Ongewild moeten ze allebei in actie komen als een gewelddadige seriemoordenaar Mike boven aan zijn dodenlijst zet. Ze krijgen hulp van een nieuw opgerichte politie-eenheid vol jonge honden, die zich bedienen van de modernste technische snufjes.
