Lane McCrae wil zich wreken op diegene die verantwoordelijk is voor de moord op zijn familie. Als hij de outlaw die de slachtpartij aanrichtte eindelijk te pakken heeft, komt het tot een vuurgevecht. Hierbij raakt Lane dodelijk gewond. Maar dan zoekt de duivel hem op met een bijzonder voorstel: in ruil voor zijn leven moet Lane een premiejager van de hel worden.
