De film vertelt het liefdesverhaal van Kenny Parker en Lolita Nowicki. Elk hebben ze zo hun eigen problemen. Ze ontmoeten elkaar voor het eerst bij toeval in Chicago. Ze besluiten een pact te sluiten en samen het land door te reizen naar de Golden Gate Bridge met slechts een doel: samen zelfmoord plegen.
