Verfilming van het mythologische verhaal van Orpheus en Eurydice, geplaatst in het Brazilië aan het eind van de jaren vijftig. De mooie, jonge Eurydice is vanuit haar dorpje gevlucht naar de stad Rio de Janeiro en wil schuilen bij haar nichtje Serafina, omdat een man haar om onbekende redenen wil vermoorden.
