Rodney Playfair wordt overgehaald om zich voor te doen als een butler, genaamd Chapman. In ruil hiervoor zullen zijn gokschulden worden kwijtgescholden. Rodney zal de butler 'spelen' in een poging om zijn vriend Carmichael over te halen om thuis een gokfeest te houden, terwijl zijn familie afwezig is. Maar hij is niet de enige die zich voordoet als een ander.
