Het verhaal speelt zich af tijdens de rassenrellen van 1967 in Detroit. Wanneer de politie een inval doet bij een bar die geen vergunning heeft en 82 mensen arresteert breken er gewelddadige rellen uit. Pas vijf dagen later komt er een einde aan het geweld. Uiteindelijk komen 39 mensen om het leven en enkele honderden raken gewond.
Nee, helaas is Detroit nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
