Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt een vliegtuig met twee personen neergeschoten boven de woestijn. Alleen de piloot, Laszlo de Almásy, overleeft maar loopt ernstige brandwonden op. Nomaden brengen hem naar een ziekenhuis, waar hij niet in staat lijkt om te zeggen wie hij is. Hij komt bekend te staan als The English Patient en verpleegster Hana ontfermt zich over hem. Tijdens hun gesprekken ontvouwt zich langzaam de ware toedracht tot het ongeluk.
Nee, helaas is The English Patient nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
