Centraal staat de ontluikende vriendschap tussen de eenzame Jon Kortina en de mysterieuze begrafenisondernemer Harvey Lewis. De twee beginnen een ondergrondse onderneming, maar moeten snel afrekenen met gierigheid, haat en jaloezie. Jon vlucht weg met de buit waardoor Harvey op drift raakt.
