Jobe O'Brien wordt slecht behandeld door zijn alcoholistische vader. Ook op de atletiekbaan wordt hij lastiggevallen door bully's. Hij blijft zich echter op zijn sport richten, wordt verliefd en ontdekt ondertussen ook nog de waarde van het christendom.
