Maria is een 17-jarig meisje uit Bogotá in Colombia. Ze heeft een slechtbetaald baantje. Haar familie rekent op haar uiterst magere salaris. Op een dag ontmoet ze Franklin die haar een voorstel doet. Tegen betaling mag ze naar de Verenigde Staten. Eindelijk eens wat van de wereld zien en ontsnappen aan haar bestaan. Maar voor dat aanbod moet ze wel iets doen: bolletjes heroïne in haar lichaam meesmokkelen.
