In de nasleep van de Tweede Wereldoorlog besluit de vrijgevochten journaliste Juliet Ashton een boek te schrijven over de Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, een boekenclub die tijdens de oorlog werd opgericht op het Kanaaleiland Guernsey. De band die Juliet krijgt met de leden van de excentrieke club verandert haar leven.
